Ahem...you need to read this post. This post will change your life.
I'm not sure why it took me a year and a half to post about these chicks, but yesterday in cyberland, I stumbled across a new video from my favorite female comedic-musical duo, Garfunkel and Oates. Riki "Garfunkel" Lindhome (left) and Kate "Oates" Micucci (right), aka two of my favorite people in the world (whom I don't actually know, but wish I did), are the brains and talent behind a series of hilarious songs and videos poking fun at everything from dating faux pas, sex, semi-low-self-esteem, douchebags, and a host of other way too accurate, awkwardly relatable topics. In fact, I once went out on a date with a guy who stated he had a huge crush on both of these girls and would kill to hook-up with them...which didn't really bother me seeing as I kind of have a girl~crush on them too. It didn't work out, but he definitely earned some points for being a fan. They say that laughter is therapeutic, so sometimes we just have to stop taking life so seriously and take a moment to laugh at the ridiculousness of ourselves, and this is what Garfunkel and Oates forces us to do. I've listed my top ten favorite G&O videos below and you need to watch them. Seriously. And don't wait too long to do it because you might forget and then your life will go unchanged. And that would be unfortunate. Whether you have to take an early lunch or carve out some time after work between your core fusion and your cocktails, do yourself a favor: watch them all and get up to speed with these awesome ladies asap! They are slated to take over the world :)
My Top 10 "May Have Just Wet Myself From Laughing So Hard" Garfunkel & Oates Songs In No Particular Order:
"29/31"-In which G&O portray the same girl at two different ages and her old and new perceptions on finding love. Otherwise known as both sides of my conscience externalized. I kind of think it should be called "27/31", but regardless, it is amazing. Click.
Booty Call Voicemail + "Self Esteem"- In which G&O replay a real life late night booty call message that Garfunkel received at 3AM, and then reply to the message via song.
"I Would Never Have Sex With You"- In which G&O relay to a guy friend that they are just friends and no sexual attraction can or will ever exist...like ever.
"One Night Stand"- In which G&O discuss what it would sound like if they (and any other girl for that matter) could happily embrace one night stands.
"Pregnant Women Are Smug"-Was my first ever exposure to G&O in which they make fun of the pregnant women who get all high-horse/"my life is grand and yours is meaningless" cray on you. Been hooked ever since.
"Sex With Ducks"- In which G&O sing a little pro-gay-marriage ditty in response to the Pat Robertson quote that stated that legalizing gay marriage could lead to sex with ducks. Brilliant.
"Gay Boyfriend"- In which G&O address that oh so special, perfectly imperfect relationship with your boyfriend...who happens to be gay.
"Me, You, and Steve"- In which G&O discuss the awkwardness of your significant other bringing around their 3rd wheel single friend to tag along on all your dates. True story.
"This Party Took A Turn For the Douche"- In which G&O reenact that what the f*ck?! moment when you look around and realize that the party/bar/club you've been patronizing for the past hour suddenly becomes flooded with douchebags.
"The Fade Away"- In which G&O call out women (including themselves) who use the fade to end relationships (ie- disappear) instead of ending it properly...and then complain about how guys don't communicate.
So basically, if you can't relate to at least one (if not all!) of these songs, then you must be from the planet Superwoman Singletron. And I'm guessing your sh*t don't stink either. Want to see/hear more G&O? They have many more videos! Check them out at www.garfunkelandoates.com and see more pics below :) Which was your favorite? Oh, and to both Garfunkel and Oates, if you're ever in New York City, I owe you a drink as a thank you for each one of these masterpieces.
